IT'S TIME TO CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAY SEASON WITH...scarabs?

HELLO THERE VATHEONITES. So, what do you get when you combine an omniscient guardian of a really strange island who is totally not God, his obsession with all things related to Egypt, and the holiday season?

Why, the gift of scarabs, of course.

Jacob is basically going to be like an Egyptian Santa Claus or something and give out tiny wooden and stone amulets in the shape of scarabs to everyone ever. No, we really mean everyone ever. Even if Jacob has never met you in his life, you are getting a scarab. Here, have a look at how they look like.

But while everyone is getting scarabs, some people who are closer to him are getting unique scarabs that were made for that particular person. Here is the list of individualized amulets that certain people are getting:

yay for lists! )

If your character is not on this list and you think he or she has had a good amount of CR with Jacob for him to make a scarab specifically for them, don't hesitate to comment here and tell me!

Forgiveness.

[Hello, fellow Vatheonites. Jacob hasn't spoken to you in a while. He gazes at the camera with pensive eyes, pausing before continuing to speak.]

Forgiveness is a rather complicated subject. Everyone knows what forgiveness is, but when it comes to actually thinking about how to use it in a situation, there are no clear rules about it. When do you forgive somebody? Do you forgive them when they prove they are not the person they are? Do you forgive them because you love them and want to keep the relationship intact as before?

How many times can you forgive a person if they do the same wrongful deed over and over again? Can you forgive a person who hurt you? Hurt your loved ones? Destroyed all the things you enjoyed?

I think it's different for every person. It is your choice on whether you forgive or you don't. Though I would rather forgive than not- if you let the memory of the deed fester in your heart for a long time, it transforms into a grudge, and you can be driven to do acts of vengeance and violence in that state of mind.

Some people believe that everyone deserves a chance. But what do you think? Do you pardon the murderer, save the sinner, let the prodigal son back into your life again?

What is forgiveness to you?

[When the video turns on, you will not find Jacob like he usually is.]

[Because usually he always has that benevolently calm smile on, but this time, it's not evident. In fact, he looks incredibly sad, his blue eyes not meeting the camera. He looks like a little kid who's been caught doing something bad and is feeling very guilty about it.]

...I'm sorry for how I behaved myself up there. I did not mean to hurt anyone, and if I did, then I'm very sorry.

[His voice is low and sincere- you can tell he really means it.]

I do not know what they did to me and the others, but I presume it was some sort of experiment to test us and change us for the worst. But why would they want to do that? Why would they want to make us hurt one another...?

[He falls silent, and then after a bit, turns the camera off. He feels so bad about all of that, it isn't even funny.]

[Guess what time it is, Vatheon?]

[INTROSPECTIVE PHILOSOPHY TIME WITH JACOB, OF COURSE. Seriously, what were you thinking it was going to be.]

[Today, Jacob seems to be finishing up the last details of a illustration he's sewing onto a piece of cloth. He looks up from his work, a questioning glance in his eyes.]

What protects you, people of Vatheon?

[He pauses for a second, as if for emphasis.] What I mean is, do you know who guards you from evil and from the things you shouldn't be doing?

For many people, it's a sort of god looking after them. For others, it's a guardian angel. But guardians don't need to be supernatural or powerful beings. They could be your friends, your family, or not even a living thing at all. Like this, for example.

[He holds the illustration up to the screen. It looks something like this:]

This is called an ankh. In a certain civilization back where I come from, this was a symbol that they used to protect themselves from evil of all kinds. It was believed that the ankh symbolized the key of life itself, and bad things could not stand the sight of it.

So, for some, even a symbol can become a source of protection in their lives. But, what about you?

Who or what protects you?

[The camera starts recording, showing the interior of what looks to be a cabin, only illuminated by the glow of an oil lamp standing on the table. A (currently hatless) man is sitting in front of a large loom where part of a large tapestry hangs, using his knife to spread the threads so he can use them to weave them into knots and such.]

[He finally turns to the camera, calm blue eyes creased in a benevolent expression.]

You know, it's rather interesting. Some people believe their lives are governed by fate, and others say that they're free to do what they want. Some say it's futile to do anything, and others disagree, saying your can change your future as much as you want to.

[He turns towards his loom again, cutting out a troublesome thread, before speaking again.]

But what most everyone agrees on is that life is made of choices. You are where you are now because you decided to go a certain way, talk to a certain person, see a certain thing...

I believe everyone has a choice. It just depends on how you use it.

[And he smiles at the camera.] So, I'm curious, people of Vatheon...what sort of choices have you experienced in your lives?

How's My Driving?

Hey, amigos. So, I play Jacob here in Vatheon. What I want to know, is, do I play him alright? Is he too benevolent? Not benevolent enough? Whatever thoughts, comments, or complaints about the way I play Jacob go here.

Comments are screened!

Jacob...is sort of complicated. He has powers that he uses in his job as the supernatural guardian of a very strange island, and they are rather god-like in nature. For example, he has a sort of omniscience about people- he knows who they are even before he really gets to know them. He can even see somewhat into a person's future (but this power will be gone in Vatheon, to keep things unpredictable for him). A noteworthy power of his is that whenever he touches someone through a handshake, a clasp of the shoulder, etc., the person he touches can experience anything from a change in the way of thinking to a push of their destinies in a particular direction. This power won't be as powerful as it was back where he came from, but he can definitely effect things somewhat if he decides to touch you. (Also, clothing has no effect on his touch or not. You could be wearing twelve layers of clothing and yet still feel a change.) So, here are some questions you can fill out before I throw Jacob at your characters.

Can he know your name even before he starts to talk to you?
He'll just pick up on the name through his omniscience, not their entire life story.

How much can he know about your character?
Their history, their way of thinking, stuff like that. Or maybe he won't pick up anything at all. Your choice.

If he decides to touch your character (through a handshake, giving them something, etc.), what effect do you want it to have on your character?
Jacob doesn't do this regularly, and only does it to people who he believes has potential. The effect could be as little as a mood change (ex: why am I feeling happier all of a sudden?) to a slight push in what they're planning to do (ex: I really want to talk to my hated rival once again for some reason. Huh.). Nothing too big, though! He could bestow immortality back home but this is not going to happen in Vatheon, sorry. And, of course, you could say that his touch has no effect at all.

Just copy, paste, and fill out the form if you could! Thank you. :)
