Jacob...is sort of complicated. He has powers that he uses in his job as the supernatural guardian of a very strange island, and they are rather god-like in nature. For example, he has a sort of omniscience about people- he knows who they are even before he really gets to know them. He can even see somewhat into a person's future (but this power will be gone in Vatheon, to keep things unpredictable for him). A noteworthy power of his is that whenever he touches someone through a handshake, a clasp of the shoulder, etc., the person he touches can experience anything from a change in the way of thinking to a push of their destinies in a particular direction. This power won't be as powerful as it was back where he came from, but he can definitely effect things somewhat if he decides to touch you. (Also, clothing has no effect on his touch or not. You could be wearing twelve layers of clothing and yet still feel a change.) So, here are some questions you can fill out before I throw Jacob at your characters.

Can he know your name even before he starts to talk to you?
He'll just pick up on the name through his omniscience, not their entire life story.


How much can he know about your character?
Their history, their way of thinking, stuff like that. Or maybe he won't pick up anything at all. Your choice.


If he decides to touch your character (through a handshake, giving them something, etc.), what effect do you want it to have on your character?
Jacob doesn't do this regularly, and only does it to people who he believes has potential. The effect could be as little as a mood change (ex: why am I feeling happier all of a sudden?) to a slight push in what they're planning to do (ex: I really want to talk to my hated rival once again for some reason. Huh.). Nothing too big, though! He could bestow immortality back home but this is not going to happen in Vatheon, sorry. And, of course, you could say that his touch has no effect at all.

Yep, go right ahead. Just expect Karkat to freak out about it if he just uses it without asking, though.

How much can he know about your character?
Being as Karkat has about zero resistance to freaky mind powers, quite a lot. He's obviously very angry (anyone could tell you that) and self-loathing. He has a strong tendency to blame himself for various mistakes, whether or not they actually as much his fault as he thinks they are. Kid can angst like no one's business.

He should also be able to pick up that his professed loathing towards everything isn't quite as sincere as he tries to make out to be. Sure, he does carry a whole lot of anger and rage, but it's not complete per se. He has an oddly high amount of friends, including at least three best friends, including three filled quadrants. (Granted, one is based on hate, and that there is quite genuine. But in a weird troll hateromantic way.)

Dig a little or simply give context where it might come up - things about social structure or hierarchy, injuries, embarrassment - and it would be easy to tell that he has huge issues over blood. It's something he hides and is very sensitive about, despite practically no need for that sentiment here in Vatheon.

He should also be able to tell that he's killed once before, and has the will to do it again should it be for the sake of those he cares about.

Of course, Karkat would be even more freaked out if Jacob were to address him about most of these things. Not that he can't, but just fair warning.

If he decides to touch your character (through a handshake, giving them something, etc.), what effect do you want it to have on your character?
I'm not actually sure what Jacob would want to do for him if anything, but Karkat could certainly use a boost to his mood or confidence. Not so much that he would go around smiling much - that's just not him - but he's been worse off here than he was before arrival. Without tl;dring at you, he's just been through some traumatic events that strike him much as personal failings, despite how others tell him not to blame himself. He doesn't think he's half the leader he wanted to be, and while he does strive to make up for it, it's a big emotional wound in his mind.

Oh, another thing Jacob could pick up on - he carries a lot of guilt in particular for others' deaths, even though in the vast majority of cases, he didn't have any part in it, and it would have been very hard for him to prevent them.
